It was May 2002.  Ababhash, a Kolkata-based journal, started its journey in the publishing world with a book of criticism on a Tagore novel.

There is a very clear line of demarcation between the activities of big publishing houses propelled by commercial interest and the purpose of journals like Ababhash which actually belong to the little magazine movement searching for an alternative space of cultural practice and ideological resistance.

Till now, Ababhash has published more than eighty books. Some significant books have been published in association with the Department of Women’s Studies, Jadavpur University.

We sincerely consider the proposal coming from research groups and centers of academic excellence. We have plans to reprint some books that are not currently available, publish some English titles and translations.

Our strength lies in the response of the readers who lend their support to our ventures and inspire us to explore the unchartered territories of Bengali literature.
